friend or foe?

i'm always slightly amused when i notice someone's dropped me from their Lj 'friends list'...i mean really, what is this...junior high? i'll admit i haven't the time or the patience to take in everybody's blog everyday. in fact, i breeze right past some (especially the wordy or blatantly, over the top self-indulgent ones), and i'm sure i'm not alone in this. we have our own lives, our own agendas, and life is just too damn short to be stuck in front of a 'puter 24/7.

and maybe my issue is with the term 'friend.' no matter how bad my brain hurts to read or even scroll past certain blogs, i can't bring myself to purge or delete massive amounts of blogs on my list...why? because they have that 'pull at your heart strings' word attached to it. if this was my 'blog roll' list or something more non emotive, like 'froggin bloggin schtoggin' list, i might not give it a second thought.

really, what it all comes down to is....i just wanna play nice with the other kids and do my best not to get pantsed.

I think it bothers me when someone deletes me from their friend list because I like to think even though I don't post all the time... that when I do post it is good enogh to keep me around... when someone deletes me or doesn't add me back it is like they are saying my little world is of no interest to them... and that stings... sorda like in third grade when Tyler Frakes kicked me his dad's steal toe boots for no reason...

yah...completely.

and i add people almost automatically that 'friend' me, too. i'm THAT nice. yes, i even friended a psychopath who had a freakish obsession with guns!!!!...it doesn't mean i'll immerse myself in their lives, it's just a gesture. it takes time to foster a true relationship, especially online.

and kiddo, for the record? you're one of the few i consider a 'real friend,' as opposed to a 'yeah, i'll add you, but i just don't think we'd ever be friends in the real world' category. you, on the other hand, have an impeccable sense about you and a sharper than ginsu wit...your take on the world is truly unique, and for that reason i enjoy ALL your offerings. plus, you're just such a cool gal..and a great artist.

and f'yask me, i think tyler had the hots for ya.
boys..

thank you :) you made my day

I was so excited when you joined the LJ world... I had been going to your website since I was a senior in high school...and reading the old school journal you had. I had been collaging and keeping the things I found on the ground for as long as I can remember... when I found your website it was the first time I looked at what I was doing and thought of it as art... my parents had called my creations trash for so long I had begun to believe them... so thanks... you were the first to show me the mixed-media light.

i think many of us take it personally when we're not friended back or "dropped." for those who write about what they had for breakfast in the morning, being dropped is this message that their life isn't very interesting. for those that create a post around the social implications of what they had for breakfast and equate creating posts with creating art of a sort, being dropped is this message that their art isn't any good.

LJ "Friends List", because of the whole conversation aspect, is just so different than a blog roll which i agree, would make life a little easier 'round these parts (though would also make things a little quieter).

my two cents.

aaaaaah good point. volatile doesn't=negative.
eeeeeeverybody could stand a bit of drama.
heeeeell, that's hollywood's meal ticket..

buuuut. i'm not so concerned about people who pass me by. THAT...i almost expect. it's the flagrant act of disregard....those who friended ME, and without any warning, any contact whatsoever, dropped me...like a hot potato swarming with maggots.

it hurts. and i flucking H A T E that it hurts....but, it does. maybe someday it won't. baaah.... i'm too sensitive for my own good, and maybe i need to toughen up.

thanks for your thoughtful thoughts..

i think that you are right on with the term 'friend'
making it more emotional.

i have taken people off my f-list in the past
if they never made a comment in my journal.
not that i need the comments but i post my kids' names
& occasional photos, so i feel more protected
kindaknowing the people who see behind the curtain.

i don't post everday in yours
but i enjoy your posts so much.
really, i do.

Re: GUNS
heh heh...yah...but,

seriously, dude...this guy was a NUTFREAK! he kept making REALLY cryptic entries, as if he was planning to kill massive amounts of people or overthrow the government or something. not exactly the 'friendly' type..
