virtually speaking


thanks to burtonsmith for passing along the reporting of james kalm. he goes around documenting new york art shows and openings and posts them on youtube. he even video taped the blogger show last night!

that's it, i'm addicted.

I forwarded his youtube link to my stepdaughter, who lives in NY, and is in a Chelsea gallery. It's funny how stuffy those openings are, they are on Thurs. evenings and always run 2 hours. When she visited us about a month ago, I took her to some openings here and she was blown away by the festive atmosphere, diversity of people in terms of ethnicity and age and the fact that people were actually having fun.

i was fascinated to see the different dynamic, as well. it's definitely more laid back here....we've been to multiple openings here where dogs and kids are running free like it was some kinda playground or something.

the only common thread i see is the art taking a back seat to all the socializing...
