phony ballona..

i hate phones...
i hate them.
with a passion.

maybe...just maybe,
someone will somehow understand me...

until then..
the rings will always sound like sirens.
and i will always..
and forever..
hate phones.

Phone Ring
I know what you mean. The sound has a sense of urgency about it,just like a loud knock at the door. "Oh my God who could it be"!!! Don't answer it and maybe they will go away.

I too hate the phone. Banality masquerading as urgent news. We never asnwer the phone at our house. We didn't at my parents' house either. This action (sitting in a chair, ignoring the phone) has caused extreme consternation to many visitors.

Feh, say I, the phone has messages, let me get some use out of my all inclusive package!

well, i must say..
it sounds like your friend really 'suffered' for their art. ;D

and this whole phone hatred thing has got me wondering..
do most or all artists loathe the phone?
i think it has something to do with the meditative state of mind we tend to fall into as artists each time we're in the act of thinking or making art.

maybe i just need to get a softer ring tone?
or a quiet gentle zen voice that says:
'it's o.k......you don't have to pick up.....go about your business'

I hate phones too. They just scare me.

When I was little I tried to leave a message on my friends answering machine and somehow I messed it up because I got yelled at by their dad (who was really scary) So I have yet to ever leave a message when I call anyone, and I don't have voice mail... Now I never pick up the phone unless I know I'm the only one at my house..

pammy
I hate the sound of the phone breaking into my life. I would love to not have a phone. I find it very empowering to not answer the damn thing. It's like taking back some power in your life. And I say "fuck-em if they don't like it" to all who try and find me:)

Re: pammy
i'm so glad i'm not the only one with this gripe..
i seriously thought i might be the only one who doesn't enjoy having a phone stuck to my head...(must be all those kids i see walking home with their cell phones in one hand and luggage in the other)

i sure do love answering machines though...one sided conversations can be an art form! you should hear some of mom's. (i'm sure she's left them for you) they're hilarious...her voice turns all robotic and you can tell her skin is crawling not having anyone on the other end!! ;D
