honest ossifucker...i was framed!

artwork by thomas kinkade...hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiss.
mat gleason (a.k.a. coagula) is curating a show to run at the i-5 gallery this november. i was recently invited to participate in this exhibition..

guidelines for show:
a bankrupted thomas kinkade franchise owner gave me frames intended for kinkade paintings, designed by the artist TK himself to frame the"paintings of light"...i am giving these frames (one each) to selected artists to use in the making of an artwork concerning the subject (which is also the name of the show): SURVIVING KINKADE.

um.....o.k....first off.....HOOOOOOOW could i refuse?!?!?!?!
yah....let's just say......my chop saw is BESiDE herself!!!!

Oh my god. That is AWESOME!!! I am so excited for you, can't wait to hear/see what you do!! I HATE TK. I wrote a paper about him in undergrad about how he isn't an artist. Heehee!!

Oh, good luck with the show!!!!!

oh my...how i would LOVE to read that paper of yours..do you still have it? i'm liking that concept...the systematic breakdown of why this person is, in fact, not who he thinks he is...or at the very least...why his art isn't fit to live.

Oh, man... i don't know if I could put my hands on it...it was back when I was at Wayne State (8 years ago!?) - Started off with the analysis of his style, a technical review of his painting technique, then a discussion of intention, originality and the lines between commercial and fine art...

Funny aside: a friend of mine makes stained glass, I make photographs...so, Andy was hanging one of my friend's stained glass pieces in our window, and we had been talking about art in general...and his brother (who was visiting) starts talking about all the art that his wife has been buying lately....

and wait for it....

...it's all thomas kinkade. Andy and I could BARELY keep a straight face.
