'shift no. 2' (pulp series)
found objects on board

my new work is coming along slowly, but surely. constructing them is proving to be a bit more time consuming though, as it involves conjoining multiple panels to form larger scale collages. i'm afraid my days of churning out art things in a matter of hours are numbered. my goal with this new series is to break out of my usual small book cover size...and although bigger isn't always better, i feel the theme of shifting plates and movement will be better expressed through a larger format.

I like it....specially the yellow and blue together.

I can so relate. Back in college I'd write a play in one sitting....like writing all night. They weren't bad. Now it can take me literally YEARS. The one I wrote last year took a whole year of thinking about it, then a week to do.

So you're ahead of me!

yeah, the gestation period is pretty important..character development takes time. and great art usually doesn't come easily either, unless you're one of those genius types. pfft.

i'd love to read some of your stuff, btw. ;D

I'd love to get some feedback.

If I may, could I mail you a copy?

If that's okay....email me a good real world address...ywingcowboy@yahoo.com.

I might even include those discs I made for Chuck and didn't get a chance to give to you guys.

Jan. 18th, 2007 10:15 pm (UTC)
heh, thanks...
yeah, although sometimes i wish i could jiffy pop my art, some of the best pieces come out of great struggle and loooong, deep conversations with myself. (usually in my head, buuuut, sometimes not)

oh wow! i think this is my favorite...EST ever!
Jan. 19th, 2007 12:45 am (UTC)
k...you MUST tell me what 'EST' means...i'm acronym challenged, in case you haven't gathered (must be an iNFJ thing? AAAAH, yet again, anOTHER acronym!!!!) anyway, for some reason none of these seemed appropriate....except for maybe: 'enfermedad sexualmente transmisible?!!'
Jan. 19th, 2007 07:30 am (UTC)
oh, sorry...i meant it was my favoritest. favoritEST ever. seriously lurve this piece! maybe i wanted to create a new acronym ahhaha

'shift no. 2'
i enjoy where your work is going.this one seems to be a bit more playful. does working larger seem harder for you?

Jan. 19th, 2007 06:01 pm (UTC)
Re: 'shift no. 2'
as you know, the image material often dictates the size, so it's really just a matter of finding larger ingredients to work with...punching up the size feels really good though!

are YOU itchin' to break out of your 4"x4" collages??
Jan. 19th, 2007 06:11 pm (UTC)
Re: 'shift no. 2'
the 4" x 4" collages are all studies for larger work. I am working as large as 34"x 38". 4" x 4" seems like an old friend to me and i am very comfortable how it feels. the small pieces also inform my paintings. they give me direction. a place to go.
