cacti art

sandra mastroianni & husband abraham szmukler, owners of cactus gallery

dropped off an artwork and some of my books at cactus gallery in eagle rock today. sandra, co-owner, greeted me with such a sweet, albeit frazzled smile. they're hanging the upcoming show 'FOUND' (which i'm proudly a part of) and she was multi-tasking like a banshee, juggling last minute entries, ringing up sales....she even told me she was planning to paint a fresh coat on one of the walls before installing tomorrow. but, the kicker was watching her interact with her little girl (couldn't have been over 5) she confessed that her daughter NEVER clings to her anymore, so naturally....this woman was in NO position to let her daughter go. she clasped to her like an african monkey. i halfway expected them to start cooing, grooming and picking at each other....it was very....well, shall we say...organic.

buuuuut, in a very good way.

turns out, this little girl was dying for a piece of gum....not to mention her mother's love. suffice it to say, i wound up leaving with much more than i anticipated..

Did you take that photograph of the gallery owners sweetie?

When we go on Saturday, we MUST get some of that special tea they sell.
