i was saddened to hear of his death.
he was an artist that i so much admired and looked up to.
maybe more so than any artist.
whenever i need motivation i can always look at his work
to get me going, he was so prolific
i was just watching the charlie rose interview with him on
sunday on utube. he had such a gently soul.

Re: R.I.P.
i'm pretty sure i saw that charlie rose interview....wasn't it conducted during one of his recent guggenheim retrospectives?

and i can see why you would be so inspired by the man, randel....it clearly shows.

Rauschenberg has this effect on me. I'm crying as I type. When I walked into the show at MOCA last year, I stood in tears as I took it in. I don't know what it is, but his work is very important to me. I had no idea he had died. It seems somehow fitting that I would first see it on one of your posts, Baby.

i felt the same way at the MOCA exhibit....although i've seen other retrospectives (in houston) this one just really floored me for some reason. i think partly because it was on my own turf, so to speak.....but mostly because i had grown more into my own artistic path since the last viewing.

yes, my name is baby smith, and i used to be a raushchenberg copy cat (aren't we ALL at some point???), but somewhere in between there a light bulb went off. i realized there would (AND COULD) never be another R.R.

so, then i just appreciated him all the more.

It was during my drive home on all things considered. I missed the first bit of it, and thought maybe somebody came out with a new book about him. Then I got home and saw your journal and put 2 and 2 together and got unhappy.
