robert rauschenberg, R.I.P.


oh man, i can't even begin to describe what this person meant to me.....

gone, but never forgotten.

Rauschenberg has this effect on me. I'm crying as I type. When I walked into the show at MOCA last year, I stood in tears as I took it in. I don't know what it is, but his work is very important to me. I had no idea he had died. It seems somehow fitting that I would first see it on one of your posts, Baby.

i felt the same way at the MOCA exhibit....although i've seen other retrospectives (in houston) this one just really floored me for some reason. i think partly because it was on my own turf, so to speak.....but mostly because i had grown more into my own artistic path since the last viewing.

yes, my name is baby smith, and i used to be a raushchenberg copy cat (aren't we ALL at some point???), but somewhere in between there a light bulb went off. i realized there would (AND COULD) never be another R.R.

so, then i just appreciated him all the more.
