Well, that's just silly… isn't art supposed to be about the art? What being a woman has to do with any of that, other than having a different, and more interesting perspective, is beyond me.

yeah, wouldn't it be interesting to leave the art nameless, and do a sort of 'pepsi challenge?' see how many people can correctly identify the gender behind the piece..

that, or i could stuff a sock in my pants and see if that generates more sales!

I think many would pay for the stuffing the socks down your pants show…

i vacillated between rage and fascination while reading it. really made me think about how people percieve the whole package of art. makes me wonder if i should drop the 'baby' and go with simply 'smith,' try to throw people off the scent a bit, heh.

gotta say, i wasn't surprised by the findings, though. but, in a way i don't think ANYBODY should get $1 million for a piece of art..

I've contemplated trimming my name to Reed Garner many times (Angie Reed is a southern double name, like Betty Jo or Mary Ann).

OMG!!!
i LOVE 'reed garner!!!!' it's got that ambiguous quality. and it's strong and simple. that's the beauty of what we do, we can kneed the dough and serve it up any which way we choose, yah?
i swear, i think finding success as an artist is 50% talent (even THAT may be a generous estimate), 45% marketing strategy, and 5% pure luck.

Re: pammy
yeah, no doubt.
sadly, though, a lot of women gallerists support the findings, cuz they have to make a living, too. you can't sell a turkey to a vegetarian. well, unless you call it a 'TOFurkey.'

Tofurky is the most rank evil I have ever tried to eat. And I LIKE soy.
