took a swing at the 60+ los angeles art openings over the weekend. i'm afraid we're amateurs, as we only poked our heads in about 4. quality, not quantity as i always say. first stop was the george billis gallery in culver city, to finally lay my eyes on carol es's buttery creations..i informed her that i'm stalking her, but i don't carry a gun, so not to worry. that goes for you, too mat!
oh, did i mention that steve buscemi was there?
yup.
but, honestly, the art was the star at this gathering.
on to bergamot station in santa monica, where we took in the art of bill barminski at the berman/turner projects. this is visceral painting at it's best. the iconic graphics pulled me in, but i lost all sense of time and space gazing at the markings, paint strokes and endless layers upon layers of textures. we were fortunate enough to speak with bill, as one of chuck's friends just happened to be there and know him.
was feasting my eyes on greg lamarche's collages in track 16 across the complex, when the light's flashed on and off. last call for art...probably just as well, as my brain was on auto pilot and eyes glazed over from all the stimulation. and i only had ONE glass of wine last night, what the hell? i better check my temperature..
